Many people believe fire doors can only swing outwards. This depends on the number of people.
Thus if you have no more than 50 people served by that door you may choose to have it open inwards.
Of course fire science would prefer in the direction of travel but the Code docs do provide that choice.
(Also recall historical installs did not have to comply with the modern building code 1992).
